Reishi Mushrooms Dried Whole
Whole US-Grown Reishi for Traditional Herbal Preparations
Slow-simmer into deeply earthy teas, decoctions, broths, and extracts.
Why You'll Love It
A Mushroom With a Long Herbal Tradition
Reishi, also known as Lingzhi, has a rich history in Chinese, Japanese, and other East Asian herbal traditions. Its glossy surface and firm, woody structure make it one of the most visually distinctive functional mushrooms.
Unlike tender culinary mushrooms intended for sautéing, Reishi is traditionally prepared through slow simmering. Hot water gradually draws the mushroom’s deep color and characteristic bitter, earthy flavor into a tea, broth, or concentrated decoction.
What Does Reishi Taste Like?
Reishi has a distinctly earthy, woody, and naturally bitter flavor. This bitterness is a normal part of its traditional character and becomes stronger as the tea is simmered longer or made more concentrated.
For a more balanced cup, combine Reishi with complementary ingredients such as:
-
Ginger
-
Cinnamon
-
Lemon
-
Honey
-
Cacao
-
Coffee
-
Chai spices
-
Other dried mushrooms or herbs
How to Prepare Reishi Tea
-
Carefully break or slice the dried Reishi into smaller, thinner pieces.
-
Place the pieces in a nonreactive pot and cover with water.
-
Bring the water to a boil.
-
Reduce to a low simmer and cover.
-
Simmer for 30 to 60 minutes for a traditional tea, or longer for a deeper and more concentrated decoction.
-
Strain out the mushroom pieces before serving.
-
Enjoy as prepared or add ginger, cinnamon, lemon, honey, or another preferred flavoring.
Reishi’s firm pieces remain woody after simmering and are strained from the finished preparation rather than eaten directly.
